Vintage Magnetos

Using a fantastic selection of period tools and testing machines, some of which he has “Heathrobinsoned” together himself, Carl Kenney rebuilds magnetos for cars, ’bikes and planes. He can tackle anything, and has been known to adapt components to keep an engine running, but has now reverse-engineered unobtainable parts such as mirror-image points sets for lefthanded Bentley magnetos, which run backwards.

Kenny will be on site all weekend but not in the workshop all the time, though the shutters will be open so visitors can see everything that goes on in this Tardis-like space in The Western Tanker Sheds. It’s a treasure trove for lovers of old tools and kit, including a Crypton tester that can handle up to eight cylinders, a Magmaster for motorbikes and ‘Octopus’ bearing pullers.
