SILVERSTONE HOSTS FOR­MULA VIN­TAGE

The Vin­tage Sports-car Club’s 2018 For­mula Vin­tage sea­son kicked off at Silverstone on 21-22 April, with a pro­gramme that in­cluded in­vited grids from the AR Mor­gan Chal­lenge, FISCAR and the His­toric Grand Prix Car As­so­ci­a­tion. In the race for the Pa­trick Lind­say Memo­rial and Am­schel Roth­schild Tro­phies, Fred­er­ick Harper’s Kur­tis Road­ster held off the Alta of Gareth Bur­nett by just 0.73 secs. Richard Pilk­ing­ton picked up the Fox & Ni­choll Tro­phy in his Tal­bot T26 SS, while James Bax­ter (Ri­ley-era) won the first All-com­ers Scratch Race and fin­ished run­ner-up to Ju­lian Grimwade’s Norris Spe­cial in the se­cond.

Ed­ward Wil­liams’ Frazer Nash topped the Pre-war Sports Cars field, and Rüdi­ger Friedrichs won the Silverstone Tro­phy in his Alvis Fire­fly. The trio of pre-war hand­i­cap races went to David Se­ber (Wolse­ley Hor­net spe­cial), James Whit­more (Ri­ley 12/4 spe­cial) and Dou­glas Martin (Hil­le­gass).
