I agree with Paul Bridgman’s letter in the October issue about the underrated MGF – and I know very well what they are like because I’ve had one since 1998. When you write about other cars – such as the BMW Z3, Lotus Elise, Lotus Elan (M100), Mazda MX-5, Alfa Spider, Mercedes SLK, Toyota MR2 and so on – you never seem to put the MGF among the alternatives: is it because F is now so cheap?
As Graham Robson wrote in ’04: ‘In many ways the MGF was superior to anything which had been built at Abingdon – faster, smarter, softer-riding, and better built.’
Portugal was the eighth-biggest MGF market, with 859 sales (Spain had just 528), and we have a large group of enthusiasts. I include a pic of mine on an Automóvel Club de Portugal – Clássicos outing.
