VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE

The festive break finally allowed time to start the repairs to the Beetle. New panel sections have been made by my brother-in-law, Pat, and the rust cut out – by the time this issue goes to press there should be some shiny new metal under the rear seat. Who knows, I may even have returned it to the MOT station. MP

ROLLS-ROYCE CLOUD

With seatbelts now fitted in the front, the Cloud has been used extensively recently. Brake feel has improved after Mike Connor deduced that an adjuster in the rear drums had seized. My belief in its invincibility was shaken when I had a ‘moment’ on Christmas Day: too much speed and a narrow one-car-at-a-time bridge beyond a blind brow resulted in maximum anchors, lots of tyre smoke and many feet of skidmarks. SUZUKI CERVO CX-G

On my mate Tim’s advice, I’ve got the Suzuki’s rear as high into the air as I can (courtesy of Port’s Landie-spec axle stands) and the manifold bolts are soaking in WD40. I’m praying they don’t snap or it may end up being an engine-out job. AC

FORD MUSTANG

You know that thing when you’re checking you’ve got everything to service your classic, you spot an oil leak, it’s from the diff, and you notice it’s not the standard item and you’ve no idea what it is? Well… that. I predict much head-scratching and Googling to follow. LP
