POWERSPARK DISTRIBUTOR
As distributors wear, keeping correct timing can become difficult. If originality isn’t a concern, upgrading to an electronic version does away with conventional points and condenser in favour of electronic contacts that don’t have to be adjusted. Powerspark produces dozens of models; we tested one of its most popular, the Lucas 45D, in an MGB GT.
Externally, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between Powerspark’s distributor and the original. It’s a quality piece that matches perfectly the factory item, and it slipped into position with no fuss. Everything comes prefitted within the distributor, all you have to do is time the car once it’s been installed. The MG is now running beautifully. GM www.powerspark.co.uk
RENOVO RESTORER
You’ll need time, patience and dry weather, but your soft-top efforts will be rewarded. The process couldn’t be more straightforward: paint on (brushes and containers aren’t included), leave to dry and repeat with the next bottle. First is the Fabric Soft Top Cleaner (500ml, £13.25), which smells a bit and needs some scrubbing and hosing off before drying. Next is the Soft Top Reviver (1L, £33.25), available in five colours.
We applied two coats of it before moving on to the Ultra Proofer (500ml, £13.25). Renovo also has products to suit a vinyl roof. Highly recommended. LP www.renovointernational.com
DREMEL 4300
If you’re looking for the Rolls-royce of rotary power tools, you’ve found it in Dremel’s new 4300 model. It’s the company’s most powerful offering, with a variable speed of between 5000 and 35,000rpm and a new three-jaw chuck that allows bits to be attached without the need for tools or a key. There’s also a pivoting light.
The £139.99 set is impressive, coming in a sturdy carrycase with a box of bits, ranging from cutting discs to polishing pads and sanders. The tool itself is easy to use, comfortable to hold and simple: there’s an on/off switch and a rotary dial for adjusting the speed. It’s powerful enough for most tasks – including cleaning and deburring a Triumph 2500’s inlet manifold. We would have liked a wire brush to be included. GM www.dremel.com
