Invicta triumphs at The Warren

-

The Warren Classic and Supercar Show has a uniquely double-sided nature. Nestled in the leafy environs of the Essex golf course there’s an extensive concours d’elegance, while the raised driving range hosts a family fun day complete with live stage, trade village and special displays that this year included Movie Cars and a pair of radial engines – Rolls-royce and Alvis – that were fired up on the hour.

Miserable weather forecasts for 22 September hit the concours turnout, but there was still an impressive selection for the judges to pore over spread across 12 varied classes. Best of Show was secured by Nick Williams’ beautifully restored 1933 Invicta S-type Low Chassis, a former class recordholder at Prescott Hill Climb, which also secured the Racing Sports & Single Seaters spoils.

Peter and Merle Mullin picked up the gong for Most Elegant with the gorgeous 1937 Delage D8-120 Cabriolet, one of three cars from their collection to feature in a special display alongside Neil Utley’s Delahaye 135M and Amjad Hamato’s wild Docker Daimler.

Harold Pritchard’s 1903 De Dion-bouton Type W triumphed in the London to Brighton Veteran Celebration, while highlights among the other class winners included Paul Richards’ unusual white 1971 Aston Martin DBS V8, Edmund Waterhouse’s 1937 Alvis Speed 25 Charlesworth Saloon and Russell Brown’s superbly restored 1962 Jaguar E-type S1 fhc.

Away from the concours, clubs gathered on the fairway, among them colourful selections from the Corvette Appreciation & Preservation Society and TVR Car Club.
