Reading your feature on the Classic Motor Show (January), the picture of the Adams Probe 16 brought back memories going back 50 years. In the late ’60s and early ’70s, I was a warranty claims assessor with Ford Motor Company based in Thames House at Gants Hill, Ilford. My boss, Robin Gibbons, who liked cars that were a little different, one day pulled into the management car park in the famous Clockwork Orange car, which he had acquired from The Chequered Flag garage. I believe it had an Austin 1800 engine and, at the time, suffered from overheating problems (no doubt sorted by now).
After a rummage through an old album I found this photo I took from my window. I do recall that mention of ‘Robin’s Probe’ always raised a smile in the office.
