THE BIG PICTURE
This incredible shot from the Alfa Romeo archives is labelled simply ‘Giulia motori’ and shows racks of completed twin-cam engines waiting to find their way into saloons, Sprint GTS and Spiders. Production ramped up at the new Arese plant after it opened in 1963, but the foundry, forge and engine assembly areas were still to be found at the old Portello works. After casting and machining, engines were transferred to the line to be completed before being taken to Arese by truck. AC
