Welcome ALASTAIR CLEMENTS Editor in chief
While I realise I run the risk of speaking too soon here, and can only hope that in the interim we haven’t embarked on a second wave of this dreaded virus, the biggest news this month has been the green shoots of revival appearing across the UK classic car industry. Whether it’s the return of historic motorsport (p12), the reopening of our trusted specialists, or simply the freedom to get out and about more in our classics without feeling terribly guilty, it has been a hugely refreshing change. It’s certainly proved a boost for us here at C&SC, because our writers have been able to meet fellow enthusiasts and get back behind the wheel – taking suitable precautions, naturally – and some of the fruits of their labours are to be found in this issue.
Perhaps even more exciting for the movement as a whole is the opportunity to gather and share our passion. For the first time since the May issue, our news pages contain stories of actual rather than virtual meetings, and we are delighted to be once again joining forces with the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court (p17) for one of the UK’S first and finest post-lockdown events from 4-6 September. We plan to be out in force, so hope to see some of you there.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you, our readers and subscribers. Your contributions over these past few months have been invaluable, through the fascinating stories you have sent in (many of which will continue to appear in the magazine over the coming issues), through your interactions and conversations on our social media channels, and particularly for your many messages of support that have been so gratefully received by me and the team, and have really spurred us on through this challenging period.
