Awards finalists and winners announced
The shortlist for the second Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards has been confirmed, covering the breadth of the sector from events and collections to the best writing.
Vauxhall’s heritage set competes with the museums at Beaulieu and Gaydon for the Collection award, while Motoring Spectacle pits Classics for Carers against Revslimiter and the London Concours.
A Novice Trial, HSCC’S Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix and the Thruxton Historic contest Competitive Event, and the Race Series category features the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy for Touring Cars 1958-1966, GT & Sports Car Cup and FJHRA/HSCC Silverline UK.
Doug Nye, Jon Pressnell and Gary Pusey have been nominated for Outstanding Journalism, and vying for the Personality award is Daniel Geoghegan of Bicester Heritage, REVS organiser Adam Gompertz and Janice Pitchforth from the Heritage Skills Academy.
In the Restoration section is Nick Pellett’s 1911 De Dion lorry, the ex-david Richards/ari Vatanen 1981 Ford Escort Mk2 World Rally car restored by Viking Motorsport and the first production Landrover, saved by Julian Shoolheifer.
New for 2020, the Young Achiever finalists are Liam Howel from the Jim Clark Trust and Museum, Jack Bond of Tip Top Engineering and the VSCC, and Harry Ruffell-hazel from CMC.
C&SC’S Alastair Clements and Simon Taylor, plus Autocar editorin-chief Steve Cropley, are among the illustrious lead judges.
The Club also announced the winners of the 2020 Motoring Book Awards, with Richie Ginther: Motor Racing’s Free Thinker by Richard Jenkins claiming Book of the Year and Shadow by Pete Lyons taking the Specialist category.
