Hagerty reveals 10 cars to watch

-

The Hagerty Bull Report, which since 2017 has used its database of car values to track trends in the USA, has arrived in the UK for the first time with a varied list of 10 cars to keep an eye out for in 2021.

Largely looking at the lower end and the enthusiast market, it pinpoints models that have shown promise in value terms – which might not necessarily be rising, but arrested decreases. One such car is the Ferrari 328, which from a high of around £100,000 in 2016 has steadily slipped to £80,650. But the drop was down just 2% in the past 12 months, suggesting values have stabilised and are ready to rise once again. The Aston Martin DB7’S dropping price makes that model an appealing proposition.

Hagerty highlighted the Land Rover Discovery Series 1, which was also marked out as having a high potential gain between a poor or average example and one in excellent condition. The non-turbo Porsche 944 S2, Renault 5 GT turbo (up 38%) and 997cc Mini Cooper were joined by the original

Ford Focus on the list, while the Jaguar Mk2 has risen by an impressive 27% in value. Like the Ford, the third-generation Toyota MR2 is newly considered and increased by 12%. The relatively recent Mercedes-benz SLS AMG completed the line-up.

“Although changes in the value of a classic car may be far from an enthusiast’s mind,” says head of UK valuations John Mayhead, “these can offer the chance for some of their ownership costs to be offset if they rise in value as predicted.”
