The big picture

For the epic 1980-’81 Transworld Mini charity challenge, the threeman crew of Tony Clarke, Tim Ferris and their cameraman stopped at several far-flung Save the Children centres. Here, Minis ‘Jack and Jill’ are mobbed by excited youngsters at Sa Kaeo Refugee Camp, a huge holding centre in north-east Thailand near the border with Laos, housing 36,000 exiles from the Khmer Rouge’s genocidal regime in Kampuchea. After years abandoned in storage, these historic Minis have now been saved and superbly restored (p130). MW
