Classic Sports Car

Handsome print

-

I’ve always been impressed by the quality of the magazine, but recently found a unique use arising from the wonderfully heavy paper used in its production.

I’ve owned my 1948 RMB Riley for ever, buying it years ago in lieu of the MG my then girlfriend and now my wife of 54 years wanted me to get. Not much cash bought a lot of Riley in ’64, and after a sidevalve Morris Minor it was ‘the goods’.

It’s been in a one-man restoration since 1998 and is in the final stages of having the roof covering applied. The wadding proved too springy, so I had to find a way to compress it – what else but my C&SC collection (dating back to 1998) could provide the evenly distributed compressive load, laid several deep but inboard of the covering seams so I could see them and get them straight.

Still a few more wrinkles to go, but getting there thanks to the sun’s heat plus Classic & Sports Car!
