Classic Sports Car

B the best

May I heartily endorse Ray Grant’s comments about his MGB (Letters, March). I am fortunate enough to own a 2000 Porsche 911 (996), a 1973 Lotus Elan +2S 130/5 and a 1965 MGB. Their abilities as pure driver’s cars are probably in the same order as I have listed them, but when it comes to putting a guaranteed smile on my face, for some reason it is the MGB that wins on almost every occasion.

When the time comes for me to downsize, it will be the MGB that I keep. Unsurprisingly, it is also the car I have owned the longest at 35 years – almost half my life. Never was a car so aptly described as ‘greater than the sum of its parts’.
