RACING MEMORIES REVIVED

-

In 1957 Fairthorpe produced the Electron Minor, which was available in either kit or fully built form. Enthusiast Tony Butt is a great fan of Turners and Electron Minors, and he owns his late father’s Electron, 100 UMY, which was a genuine Fairthorpe works car. He and cousin Clive Golding want to go historic racing in a pair of these cars so, because Golding lives and works abroad, Butt volunteered to find him a suitable car and prepare it.

He answered an advertisement in the Fairthorpe Sports Car Club newsletter for a ’59 Minor in Scotland, and after lockdown he drove north to buy it from owner Frank Law. The Fairthorpe shared space in a basement garage with a Jaguar XJ-S that had been stored there for many years. Little history is known for the Electron and there is no logbook, but it is believed to have been sold new in Scotland by a dealer trading as AMCO. The car is registered NWG 10, a Stirlingshire number, and Law got it from a scrapyard around 35 years ago. If anyone recognises the car, or knows anything of Golding’s father’s successful racer, 75 VMT, please get in touch via C&SC.
