Classic Sports Car

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS

-

As sales activity within the classic car industry continues to heat up, several key developments within the trade are already suggesting an action-packed marketplace in 2022.

Collectors Garage was launched in early December 2021, becoming the first of a planned range of companies from Broad Arrow to serve the classic car industry. This dedicated private sales business for highquality collector cars is based in the North American state of Michigan and led by a team with a wealth of industry experience – the showroom already boasts some blue-chip machinery, from ’68 Lamborghini Miura P400 to ’ 73 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight.

Meanwhile, Tom Hartley Jnr’s Derbyshire dealership will be moving to a new home in the Cotswolds in 2023, with plans for the 40,000sq ft showroom (left) already being put into action. Following 25 years serving the very top of the classic market, the firm hopes that its new 100-car premises will become the go-to destination for trading classic exotica.

RM Sotheby’s, meanwhile, has appointed Mark Donaldson (below) as director of private sales, part of the auctioneer’s expansion in the sector. Donaldson describes the division as: “A highly discreet and very professional component of RM Sotheby’s business.”

At the same time, the sale house has increased its long-standing collaboration with Canossa Events, becoming its primary sponsor and auctions partner as Canossa continues its expansion throughout the USA, Europe and the Middle East. Following the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic in January will be similar fixtures in Modena, Italy, in July and the United Arab Emirates in December.

Not to be left behind, The Market by Bonhams has now launched in the USA, led by general manager Caroline Cassini. Last year the firm grew its turnover by almost 300% and this move fulfils its strategy of an ‘always-on’ approach, as the newly acquired online auction platform expands into the global market.
