REH Forks Relaunch

-

There’s been a lot of talk in the Pre-65 world recently about the REH forks created by Robin Humphries in the 1960’s. Now they are being relaunched by Duncan Macdonald from his workshop in North Yorkshire. Duncan is well-known in classic trials through his company Armac Design, specialists in Triumph Tiger Cub trials frames and components.

“REH is a longstanding British brand and we are maintaining the tradition started by Robin Humphreys of making the forks entirely in Britain,” said Duncan.

He is tackling it in two stages: first are forks for Pre-65 trials followed later by forks for Pre-65 motocross. Prototype testing has been underway for 10 months. Test bikes included Mick Grant’s BSA Bantam, Dave Thorpe and Duncan’s Triumph Tiger Cubs, David Emmott’s 500 Triumph Twin and Duncan’s Ariel HT5.

“Feedback has surpassed expectations,” said Duncan. “We have only had to tweak a few details and production is well underway.”

Forks should be available by the end of June. Specification is 35mm diameter stanchions with sliders machined from 2014A billet aluminium (a very hard, strong grade) to replicate the original REH castings. They are available in two lengths: 762 mm (30”) or 812 mm (32”) with three spring rates: soft, medium or hard with 5, 7.5 or 10 weight oil and internally adjustable pre-load. One slider has a brake anchor lug compatible with Tiger Cub replica hubs.

A pair of assembled fork legs will cost £795 with a range of REH Options as bolt-on extras. These include fork gaiters, fork leg protectors, spindles, yokes, mudguards, mudguard brace assemblies and mudguard brace clamps with or without the front brake cable anchor.

There will be a full spares back-up of seals, wipers, bushes, springs etc (note: they won’t fit the original REH forks as the internal specification has been upgraded).
