As with any project machine, what makes it so special is when you add your personal touch. In 1979 the Honda trials machines which were so successful in the hands of Rob Shepherd were not available to the general public. This set the minds of many four-stroke trials fans into overdrive, as they decided to make their own idea of a four-stroke trials machine. Way back in 1973 Peter Gaunt had converted the Honda XL 250cc into a handy trials machine, with support from Nick Jefferies through his motorcycle business. A few years later Patrick Elliott would take the Honda XL 250cc four-stroke motor and construct his own ‘Elliott special’
