ollowing months F of heartache in 2015 that ended with reports her 18-month marriage was over, Cheryl Fernandez-versini was last week pictured looking happy and relaxed – and her wedding ring was nowhere to be seen.

The 32-year-old singer – who married Jean-bernard Fernandez-versini, 35, in July 2014 – was snapped dancing, hugging friends and laughing during best pal Kimberley Walsh’s lavish wedding celebrations in Barbados.

A source says: “Cheryl’s got her fighting spirit back and she feels like she’s getting back to her old self. She needed to get away from the UK and enjoy some sunshine and quality time with her closest friends.

FUN IN THE SUN

“The trip was a great confidence booster. She was chatting to some guys and even taught them some of her moves on the dance floor! She took lots of selfies during the trip and spent most of the celebrations dancing. She’s had more fun in the past week than she had the whole of last year.”

Cheryl has bounced back from countless dramas in the past. Her four-year marriage to footballer Ashley Cole ended in 2010 amid claims that he’d repeatedly cheated on her. That same year she contracted lifethreatening malaria while on holiday. And in 2011, she suffered the humiliation of being sacked from The X Factor USA .

DRESSING FOR HERSELF

But friends say that Cheryl’s recent marriage turmoil has only made her more determined to emerge stronger again. As Closer previously reported, Cheryl had undergone an image makeover after meeting JB, who thought she should consider adopting a more sophisticated look.

However, lately she’s reverted to her previous, more relaxed style, baring her tummy at Kimberley’s hen party, and wearing a revealing mesh swimsuit in Barbados.

A source says: “Cheryl has always dressed for the man in her life, whether that was being a WAG with Ashley, or a glamorous French wife with JB. Now she’s ready to reassert her own self

and identity, she wants to get back to the old Cheryl. She says she’s ready to have fun again after the year from hell.”

FRIENDS REUNITED

And insiders reveal that one person partly responsible for helping Cheryl move on is her old friend and ex, Adam Walsh, who is also Kimberley’s younger brother.

They first met in 2003, during the early Girls Aloud days. At the time Cheryl said: “We just clicked and everything’s going great.” They were thought to have briefly dated again before Cheryl got together with JB, and friends say they caught up again at the wedding last week.

Now pals add that Adam, 31 – who is now dating ex- Hollyoaks actress Twinnie-lee Moore, 28 – has helped her see that she can move on from all the negativity of the last few months.

A source says: “Cheryl knows that Adam is with Twinnie and is very happy for him. However, spending time with him has helped her realise she shouldn’t wallow over her break-up.

“They had a big heart-toheart, and he told her that she was way better than any of the men she’s dated. Cheryl enjoyed was put under the spotlight, and worse still that Ian is planning a tell-all book about his years working behind the scenes on the show.

A source says: “Cheryl is horrified at the thought of not having any control over what stories are printed about her. She fears Ian could reveal lots of details about her private life. She called Simon Cowell to ask if he could put a stop to the book. He’s reassured Cheryl it won’t tarnish her reputation, but she is worried about what might be revealed.” the holiday and it certainly boosted her confidence – she’s been reminded that she’s a tough cookie underneath.

“Hanging out with Adam and her close friends brings out her funny, cheeky side, and reminds her who she is at her core. She’s finally feeling more positive about her future.”
