‘Everyone swooned over Jon Hamm’

-

Patsy’s lifeline. Other than that, as long as somebody will get the car, pay for stuff, provide her with cocaine, and there’s always someone to sleep with, then life is great. I adore that Patsy doesn’t know the word for “cash” – she’s never had to say it before so she will just do this [Joanna makes a grabby hand motion]. You both look the same as when the show started 24 years ago… JO: Daily plastic surgery. JEN: Huge amounts of alcohol. What’s your favourite Ab Fab moment? JO: One of my favourite scenes is right at the beginning of the TV series, where Patsy is asleep on the lavatory in her clothes and just cranks up like a puppet when you pull the strings. She has to “clean out” every morning, so she has some suction thing that goes down her pants, then she has to put injections around her head and slap a few things on. She says: “Tell me I look fabulous, darling!” JEN: I don’t think I’ve ever recovered from when we were both transformed into old ladies [for a future dream sequence] and Patsy’s pants fell down. Honestly, I remember laughing from the moment we put those old suits on. We had these fat bodies and rice bags for tits. Patsy could have tucked hers into her waistband! JO: Our hands were made to look like elephant claws and we had false necks, false faces and bald heads. Patsy had terribly ill-fitting false teeth and we could hardly stop laughing. The director was angry with us because we were wasting so much time. JEN: We then laughed even harder! JO: There was another scene I remember where Patsy smells a flower for the first time and a bee goes straight up her nose, only her septum has disappeared from taking so much cocaine over the years and it goes straight down her throat. She spits it out and then her pants fall off. JEN: I have never laughed so much in my life. JO: We were crying with laughter and the director was saying: “Come on, come on, we can’t do it again!” JEN: We couldn’t do it again.
