Davina: “You’ve either got a flat tummy or you haven’t!”
Davina Mccall, who returns with Long Lost Family this week, talks staying in shape, sobriety and motherhood
With a washboard W stomach women half her 48 years would kill for, queen of celeb fitness Davina Mccall claims her impressive six-pack isn’t down to her exercise regime, believing her super-toned stomach is simply due to genetics.
The mum-of-three has made a series of top-selling workout DVDS and often shows off her body on social media.
FITNESS JOURNEY
“I’ve got abs, but I think that’s just genes. I do train, but I think you’ve either got a flat tummy or you haven’t. My legs aren’t that good, but I’m hoping everybody’s looking at the tummy, so they don’t see my legs,” she admits.
And while Davina might be in fantastic shape, she isn’t a slave to the gym. She explains: “I try to work out three times a week, sometimes in the gym, but this week I did a two-hour bike ride and a swim class.”
The star also freely admits she hasn’t always been so healthy. In her 20s, Davina battled a heroin addiction and even endured a stint in rehab.
But last year the brunette celebrated 20 years of sobriety, admitting she will never touch alcohol again because she wouldn’t trust herself with drugs if intoxicated. Since her recovery, she hasn’t had a single glass – “not even icy cool rosé on a summer’s day.”
MOTHERHOOD
Davina says that becoming a mother, welcoming her first daughter Holly in 2001, now 14, with husband Matthew Robertson, “calmed” her down. She explains: “I partied hard in my youth and becoming a mum grounded me.”
Davina, who is also mum to Tilly, 12, and Chester, nine, reveals: “It gave me just what I was looking for – that maternal love and bond that I could never get with my own mum. I did love my mum and she loved me, but it was never in a nurturing way.”
Davina is set to return to our screens in a tear-jerking new series of Long Lost Family, which seeks to reunite adopted children with their birth parents.
She explains: “I shut down when we’re filming and I think that’s why I cry so much when I watch it. When I watched episode one I was in tatters.”
