‘Age is no barrier – I feel & look better than ever’

- By Mel Fallowfield

Sarah Hunter, S 52, lives with her partner Jon, 48, with whom she runs a specialist car workshop near Norwich.

She says: “In October 2014, I took a good look at myself in the mirror and didn’t like what I saw. I’m 5ft 11, weighed 14∂st and was a size 16. I felt a mess. The weight had gone on gradually almost without me noticing, but I was inching towards a size 18.

“I loved snacks like cheese, crisps and sausage rolls, and I’d have a couple of alcoholic drinks every night. I’d turned 50 earlier that year and knew I had to get a grip. I searched the internet and found a 12-week challenge run by Biosynergy, a company that provides an exercise plan with nutritional advice and supplements – and I worked with a personal trainer once a week. I began exercising five or six times a week, mostly weightlifting. I’m a very determined person and when I put my mind to something I commit to it.

“Within three months I’d lost 2st and felt so much better. Then I went along to watch a bodybuilding contest, which I’d heard about through the fitness training, and it inspired me to compete.

“It took a year of watching my diet carefully and exercising and giving up alcohol – it was hard work but I loved seeing my body shape change. I’d always hated my stomach and upper thighs, but they became so toned. I was surprised by how quickly it happened.

“I can’t believe how much better and healthier I feel now. I’m a size 12, and around 11st, though I rarely weigh myself as I go by how my clothes feel on me. My husband loves the results!

“It’s great to have a goal to focus on – I wish I’d realised that when I was younger. But at least I have gone through it and feel a million times better than I ever have. I know Denise can do it – age is no barrier!”
