Fresh concerns for kerry’s children

As work commitments take Kerry Katona away from home, insiders say there are worries over how husband George Kay will cope with running the household alone

- By Deborah Fraser

he admits she’s S more famous for her turbulent relationships than her pop career, but since Kerry Katona reconciled with her estranged husband George Kay in August, she’s now more focused than ever on work and building a future together.

Kerry, 36, has recently secured a string of projects that will take her away from their Sussex home – including a 32-day stint throughout Christmas and the New Year performing in a panto in Lincoln, and a seven-date tour of Australia and New Zealand with Atomic Kitten in February.

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

However, insiders say there are some concerns over how George, 36, will cope with looking after five children and running the house, as well as attempting to launch his own career as a TV star.

A source says: “Kerry has a flat arranged in Lincoln and is about to start six weeks of rehearsals, then she’ll be performing twice a day for over a month, with just Christmas and New Year’s Day off. George will take the kids to visit, but this is the first time he’s been left to run the house alone. Kerry knows what a great support he’s been and she’s confident he’ll cope fine”

Pals say Kerry’s ex, Brian Mcfadden – with whom she has Molly, 15, and Lilly-sue, 13 – and his family are concerned about the pressure on George, who was detained under the Mental Health Act in 2014 following a public meltdown brought on by a mix of steroids, sleeping pills and alcohol.

Reports emerged when they briefly split last year that Kerry – who is also mum to Heidi, nine, and Max, eight, from her marriage to Mark Croft and Dylan-jorge, two, with George – kicked her husband out because she feared his “erratic behaviour” was unhealthy for her kids to be around. In July this year, George was acquitted of assaulting Kerry and possessing a stun gun, relating to an alleged incident last October.

HUGE PRESSURE

And despite Molly and Lillysue spending most of their holidays in Ireland with Brian’s family, their grandparents are concerned for the girls, considering the extra strain George will soon be under. A source says: “Brian’s family are very close to the girls. They know they’ve had to endure a lot of upheaval recently in their home life and want them to have some stability. They know that, for Kerry, the kids will always be her first priority, but they’ve told her straight they’re worried that looking after the children without her is a huge pressure on anyone and could be too much for George. But Kerry’s reassured them he’s in a good place now and is a fantastic dad to the kids. She’s said she has no concerns, and this has put their minds at rest.”

The girls have spoken out before about helping their mum, who suffers with bipolar disorder, to run the home. In May, Lilly-sue revealed she’d had counselling following Kerry’s split from George, and previously revealed it was “difficult” when “mum would spend days in her room upset.”

A source says: “Kerry is really close to her kids and knows they’ll all miss each other while she’s away, but she works hard to support them all financially and has explained that this is necessary. She’s very confident George can cope with running the home and hopes that when her work commitments are over, the family will be closer than ever.”
