Posh on her marriage:

Insiders reveal the inner workings of the Beckhams’ marriage and how they keep their 18-year relationship alive

“We have fun – I’m not as miserable as I look!”

❛THEY HAVE MADE A VOW TO SPEND AS MUCH TIME TOGETHER AS POSSIBLE❜

It’s one of the I longest marriages in showbiz, spanning almost two decades and, despite enduring its fair share of controversy, David and Victoria Beckham’s relationship – and £500 million brand – is still going strong.

After facing constant speculation over the state of their 18-year marriage, Posh, 43, made a bid to silence the rumour mill earlier this month as she offered a rare glimpse into the secret of their marital success.

HECTIC LIVES

Opening up to Vogue Netherlands, she said: “David and I have a lot of fun together. If I really was as miserable as I look in some of those pictures, my children wouldn’t be as happy as they are. And I wouldn’t be married any more.”

An insider adds: “Victoria’s a completely different character to the one portrayed in public. She has an incredibly dry sense of humour, which David loves – in fact he can be the more serious of the two, and the one who worries more.

“They have hectic lives and spend a lot of time apart, so when they’re together they make that time count.”

The couple have gone all-out to defy the critics even in the toughest of times. In 2004 it was alleged David had an affair with his assistant, Rebecca Loos – David dismissed the claims as “ludicrous” – and over the years there have been continued reports of the pair leading separate lives due to their demanding careers.

Talking about their relationship earlier this year, David, 42, admitted: “Of course you make mistakes. We all know marriage is difficult at times and it’s about working through it.”

And shortly after revealing they had secretly renewed their wedding vows, the couple were hit with another scandal after hackers leaked thousands of David’s emails – many of them containing explosive information, including the star’s reported attempts to use his charity work as part of a campaign for a knighthood.

A source reveals: “No matter what happens, they put on a united front. But after a few tough years of being ships in the night, they recently vowed to make more of an effort to spend time together and sync their schedules as much as possible.

“If there’s something bothering one of them, they’ll talk it through immediately rather than letting it build up into resentment.

“When one of them is away, they’ll always Facetime each other and send pictures – sometimes Vic sends David’s favourite chocolates to his hotel room or has Harper record a cute video message for him to wake up to when he’s away.”

TYPICAL DAY

Beckham insiders reveal the couple thrive on running their busy household like clockwork and try to lead as “normal” a life as possible despite their superstar status.

A source reveals: “Victoria’s always up at 6am and gets in her jog before David and the kids wake up, so she can eat breakfast with them all before the school run.

“There’s usually a quick discussion about what afterschool activities are going on before they all part ways to get on with school and work.

“At night, they all make an effort to sit and eat dinner together and David and Victoria are both very strict about not having the TV on at dinner time or until after all of the homework is completed.

David’s in charge of dinner, as cooking isn’t Vic’s forte. They both try to have at least an hour at night where they switch off from work, but it’s often tricky for Vic as she’s dealing with things coming in from America, so she finds it hard to wind down. It’s a juggling act to make their marriage work the way it does. It’s far from perfect, but both Vic and David are proud of what they’ve achieved against the odds.”

GROWING THE BRAND

Brand Beckham is estimated to be worth half a billion pounds, with eldest son Brooklyn, 18, releasing his first photography book, and Cruz, 12, and Romeo, 14, landing modelling and recording contracts.

A source adds: “The Beckhams are incredibly ambitious and delighted at how successful the children are becoming. Growing the brand, managing their careers and keeping the Beckham name in the spotlight has become a major unifying force in their relationship.”
