‘This pregnancy’s been hard’
FERNE’S STRUGGLE
It was only five months ago I that Ferne Mccann was forced to confirm reports she was expecting her first child while her boyfriend, Arthur Collins, was on the run from police following an acid attack that left two people blinded in one eye and injured 18 others.
At her lowest point, just weeks after 25-year-old Arthur’s arrest over the brutal attack on a London nightclub, a tearful Ferne broke down on ITV’S This Morning, revealing that the baby had given her “strength and hope.”
While the former TOWIE star is now in a happier place, she told Closer at the RSPCA Awards that it’s been a difficult pregnancy, especially during the first few months.
Ferne says: “I haven’t had a breezy pregnancy. My first trimester was hard – I had sickness, nausea. And now I’ve developed problems sleeping, I just can’t sleep at all.”
Having been trolled over her looks and body in the past – so much so that Ferne had a nose job last year – she admits that pregnancy has given her a new perspective on her figure and that she adores her growing bump.
She says: “I feel like this is the first time that I’ve totally loved my body. Before, I’ve focused on my flaws and I’ve thought, ‘I wish this was different.’ My pregnancy boobs are the best, they’re insane! I still haven’t got used to them. Big boobs are part and parcel of pregnancy and I love them. They’ll come in handy with breastfeeding, too. I hope they stay. I love my shape and I love the bump so much. I look at myself naked in the mirror and I’m so happy!”
Ferne has had plenty of support from her celebrity friends, including Billie Faiers – who has daughter Nelly, three, and son Arthur, five months – as well as Danielle Armstrong, Vicky Pattison, and Rebekah Vardy – who’s mother to Megan, 11, Taylor, six, Sophia, three, and Finlay, nine months.

She recently praised her inner circle, saying: “I speak to Danielle every day and my best friend Billie is just around the corner. Becky has also been an absolute angel. She always sends me check-up messages and I really admired her for the post-baby photo shoot she did showing off her unairbrushed body. I thought it was a good image to put out. Vicky has been great, too – it’s been all good vibes, which I’m so grateful for.”
And she says Billie and her sister Sam – who is mum to 22-month-old Paul and is expecting her second with boyfriend Paul Knightley – have continued to support her.
She says: “I’ve been spending a lot of time with Sam and Billie and they’ve been giving me tips for when my baby arrives. I’ve got a nephew as well so I’ve been spending time around little ones. I’d never bring my baby on TOWIE. If I was going to make a cameo, it would just be me, but I don’t have any
cameos lined up.”
BIRTH PLAN
Arthur is due to appear in court on 9 October – he is charged with 14 counts of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and one count of throwing corrosive fluid on a person with intent to do grievous bodily harm – while Ferne’s due date is mid-november, and she plans to have her mum, Gilly, by her side at the birth. Ferne says: “My mum will be with me in the delivery room. She’s my birthing partner – we’re going through hypnobirthing [a programme that teaches self-hypnosis and relaxation for an easier birth] together – it’s really important to be in tune with your birthing partner. I’ll have a Scorpio baby – they have a little sting in their tail. I don’t want to find out the sex because I need an incentive to push! “It’s surprised me that I haven’t found out the gender because usually I’m a really impatient person. I always thought I would find out the sex and prepare everything for it, but I’ve just thought, ‘What will be, will be’ and it’ll be the cherry on top at the end when I find out.”
