Steph & Dom

MADE A BIG LIFE CHANGE

STEPH: Getting into this industry is probably the biggest change we’ve made. And spending more time in London, so less at our home – which is also a hotel – in Sandwich. We’re embracing it because who gets to do this at 50? It’s ridiculous. It’s what you hope life will be all about and I think if I were younger it would turn my head a little. We have some experience and respect what it is, so we enjoy it a bit more. Imagine doing this with your best friend all the time; it’s just brilliant.

HURT SOMEONE’S FEELINGS

DOM: At the last hotel, where we filmed our new TV show One Star To Five Star [where the pair try to improve other people’s hotels]. I said I didn’t like one of the rooms; it’s a show that calls for honesty. People go quiet with long faces. My wife isn’t one to hide her feelings about something she doesn’t like, which has helped me to feel more at ease about being honest with people.

WERE GENUINELY SURPRISED

STEPH: When we came back from holiday and discovered that our daughter Honor, 13, had Hoovered the whole house. That’s a massive seminal moment. I suspect it was because she was out a bit later than her curfew.

LOST OUR TEMPER

STEPH: I shouted at Honor the other day and it was a definite overreaction, so I had to apologise. She just pushed my buttons a bit far. I can’t remember what it was about. I was just tired and in pain with my back. Dom and I don’t argue – it’s a waste of energy.

TOLD SOMEONE WE LOVED THEM

DOM: My wife, yesterday. STEPH: He’s very good like that. We do tell each other every day.

● Steph & Dom’s One Star To Five Star, weekdays at 5.30pm on Channel 4
