Helen: “This baby will complete our family”

As she awaits the arrival of her second child, Helen Flanagan is overcome with happiness

- By Deborah Fraser

She announced her S “surprise” second pregnancy just days before Christmas, admitting it’s been a rough ride after battling the most severe type of morning sickness, which saw her unable to work and even hooked up to a drip in hospital.

And Helen Flanagan, 27 – who has daughter Matilda, two, with footballer boyfriend Scott Sinclair, 28 – admits that she was “taken aback” to discover she was expecting again and did three pregnancy tests.

Confirming the pregnancy, Helen revealed, “I’ve just been really poorly. I had hyperemesis gravidaram; it lasted for five weeks. Some women have a horrific time and end up in hospital for nine months, so I was lucky, but it was horrendous.”

And sources close to the star – who suffered an eating disorder in her teens, was diagnosed as bipolar in 2012 and has battled depression – say that she’s feeling happier than ever as she prepares for her new arrival.

FALLING INTO PLACE

A source says, “Helen finally feels like things are falling into place. She reassessed everything when she had Matilda, taking a step away from the limelight She used to be a regular on the party scene to focus on her family, her relationship and her health. Before she had Matilda she was a regular on the showbiz scene, but she no longer cares about parties or the celebrity lifestyle.

“She’s been keen for a sibling for Matilda for a while. Although they were going to wait a little longer, she says she feels this will complete their family. She’s convinced she’s having a boy.”

The pair have been together since 2009, with Scott admitting last month that they’ll get married “pretty soon.” And those in Helen’s close circle say she’s hoping for an engagement ring as a “push present.” A source says, “Scott and Helen have discussed marriage a lot and have only stalled because they’re both busy with their careers and Helen was desperate for a baby first. But with another one on the way, Helen wants a proposal and a big wedding late next year – with the kids a key part of the day.”

LONG-DISTANCE LOVE

Since she returned to Corrie last year after a five-year break, Helen has lived with her parents in Manchester to be near to work, and takes Matilda to Glasgow each weekend to see Scott, who plays for Celtic.

The source says, “Helen and Scott are in constant contact throughout the week. They don’t mind being apart, as long as they get quality time at weekends.”
