Lindsay: “I love kids… but I’ll adopt before I have my own”

Former Hollywood bad girl Lindsay Lohan opens up about how she’s turned her life around and her plans to start a family

She rose to fame as a squeakyclean child star, appearing in a string of hit movies including The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. But in her late teens and early twenties, Lindsay Lohan became more famed for her wild nights out, countless toxic romances with Hollywood hunks and stints in rehab.

Now dividing her time between Dubai and Mykonos, Lindsay opens up at the launch of her beach club (Lohan Beach House) on the stunning Greek island. Looking fresh-faced and happy in a grey hoodie and swimsuit, the 32-year-old actress looks a million miles away from the party girl who caused such a stir on the Hollywood circuit. Now Lindsay insists she’s worked hard to turn her life around and is looking forward to becoming a mum.

The star, who was engaged to Russian billionaire Egor Tarabasov before their split in 2016, is currently single and says, “I’ve always said that I would love to have two or maybe four kids, but I have no plans to start my own family yet. I am more likely to adopt a child first.”

COCAINE

Having begun her career as a fashion model when she was three, Lindsay made her film debut in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap at the age of 11.

The 2004 hit movie Mean Girls thrust her even further into the spotlight as one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars. But life on the showbiz party circuit saw things unravel and Lindsay was often seen living it up with her inner circle, which included Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. In 2007, she was arrested twice for driving under the influence – once for cocaine use – went to rehab three times and spent 84 days in jail. Five years later, hell-raising actor Charlie Sheen even gave Lindsay – who once commanded £5 million a film – a reported £80k to help her cover a crippling tax bill after the pair bonded while filming Scary Movie 5 together.

RECLUSE

The star – who last entered rehab in 2013 – admits that giving up booze and men has saved her. She says, “For many years, my life was a total circus, with photographers following my every move. I was known as a ‘party girl’, but I don’t want that label any more. I had a lot of people around me who weren’t there for the right reasons. It is shocking how I ended up getting in the trouble that I did.

“Now there are days where I don’t leave my villa, and if I have business at my club I’ll go there and come straight home. I have been through so much in my life that I can shut down sometimes and be a bit of a recluse.”

And after a long list of Hollywood lovers, Lindsay hit the headlines two years ago after she was photographed in a vicious fight on the beach in Mykonos with ex Egor. The couple split shortly afterwards, with Lindsay claiming that he hit her several times – although he denied the allegations.

Now in a calmer stage of her life, Lindsay, who was linked with Greek club owner Dennis Papageorgiou after she split up with Egor, claims she is at her “happiest being single” and that her focus right now is “hanging out with friends and family and enjoying the day times rather than partying at night” as well as being “big into meditation”.

TAKING CONTROL

However, the one bad habit that Lindsay hasn’t been able to kick is smoking.

She says, “I don’t drink now. It’s impossible for me to run a beach club if I am constantly drinking. My only vice now is smoking. It’s the one thing I haven’t been able to quit.”

She adds, “But ever since I turned 30, I’ve felt like a different person. [Lindsay celebrated her 32nd birthday on 2 July]. It’s knowing who I am as a person and taking control of my life and not having the distractions of Hollywood and guys around me.

“I am just a very independent woman. Ha, that sounds so cliché! But I really do feel that I have finally found me.”
