Paul: “Meghan will be mortified by ‘Diana’s shame’ comments”

After a tough week for Meghan Markle, Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell says her sister’s digs will be the final straw

She’s only been S married to Prince Harry for two months, but Meghan Markle faced her toughest week to date after a series of criticisms and yet another embarrassing swipe from her sister Samantha.

Last week, Meghan, 36, was blighted by a backlash after breaking royal protocol several times. The former actress was slammed for crossing her legs during the RAF centenary flypast at Westminster Abbey and for being “excessive” when she was seen wearing four different outfits while visiting Ireland in just 24 hours.

She then came under fire for reportedly praising Ireland’s recent vote to legalise abortion – breaking the royal precedent that forbids the royals to comment on social or political matters.

SCATHING ATTACK

And to top it all off, Meghan was yet again the target of nasty comments made by half-sister Samantha Markle, 53, who took to Twitter to launch a scathing attack. She branded her “fake” and insisted Harry’s late mother Diana would not approve of her.

She added, “Harry is a wuss to allow the Duchess of Nonsense to mistreat everyone who has been close to her, especially her family. Diana would be ashamed.”

And now Princess Diana’s former butler and royal insider Paul Burrell tells Closer that he believes her sister’s comments would have devastated Meghan and it’s likely the royals would advise her to cut contact with Samantha for good.

DEVASTATED & HURT

Paul explains, “Meghan would no doubt be mortified by her sister’s comments about her and Princess Diana – and I’m sure Harry would be hurt too. I’m sure she’d have been devastated – it was cruel of her sister to reference Diana and she has no right to say what she did. I know for a fact Diana would be deliriously happy for Harry and Meghan and would have adored her daughter-in-law.”

Since marrying Prince Harry, Meghan has made a series of royal faux pas, including getting into a car before the Queen, wearing the same colour clothing as the Queen at the Trooping The Colour celebration and publicly cosying up to Harry, by grabbing his arm while out in public. And Paul believes that Meghan may not have fully appreciated how hard her new life as a duchess would be.

He adds, “I think the past two months have been a lot tougher for Meghan than she expected. She’s been thrown in the deep end with a busy schedule of public engagements – especially attending her first proper engagement with the Queen.

“It’s difficult for someone from a different way of life, unused to the protocol, to come in and be perfect. It’ll also be tough for her as she’s used to voicing her opinion on political and social matters. But she’s learning and, with guidance from the Queen and Harry, she’ll only get better.”
