A heatwave can play havoc with your locks – causing unwanted frizz and the wrong kind of volume. Fight the fuzz with these simple tricks…
wash wisely
Dry and damaged hair will often be the cause of unwelcome frizz, so keeping it healthy and as sleek as possible is key. Start by slathering an oil through from the mid lengths to the ends a couple of minutes before showering to deliver an intense hydration boost. Then rinse out the oil and shampoo and condition. Brushing your hair while it’s wet and loaded with product will also reduce snags and breakages.
keep styling simple
Sticking with your natural look will help to keep humidity woes away. If you have naturally straight locks, then go over the lengths with irons, if you are curly, then embrace your waves. Fighting it guarantees problems later so, instead, enhance what you’re starting with. Add definition and smoothness to curls with a styling spray, and pat over a protective serum or oil if you’ve got straighter or softer kinky hair.
rethink drying
Most of us are guilty of roughly rubbing over wet tresses with a towel, but this can increase static and knots. Instead, pat the hair dry with a microfibre towel, or wrap up in a turban-style head piece. This will gently absorb the water without any elbow work or nasty damage. Once hair is damp, rake through a protective serum to encourage smoothness. Blow dry hair in a downwards direction using a nozzled hairdryer, on a low heat.
top up on-the-go
Going from hot and sticky outside to chilly air con in your office can be a problem. Hairspray will neaten a ponytail or bun, but for a less crunchy approach, we recommend a light spray oil. Spray over your lengths when fuzz starts to show. Blotting tissues are great for on the go. Keep them in your bag to tame messy flyaways with just one swipe. Phew!
