With fans questioning the state of her relationship and even blaming her for the “cold” exchanges with her husband David, insiders say Victoria Beckham feels increasingly lonely
“I’m fighting an uphill battle with David”
t was meant to I be her defining moment, celebrating ten years of her fashion empire as she graced the cover of Vogue with her four children. But last week Posh faced a bitter backlash over the article, which fuelled more speculation over her 19-yearmarriage to David Beckham.
Fans questioned why David, 43, was noticeably absent from the cover shot, which featured Victoria, 44, and their children – although he did appear in family pictures inside the magazine and with Posh on the cover of the subscribers’ edition.
Then they were attacked for the “bizarre” way they described their relationship, with Posh saying, “We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals”. Meanwhile, David posted a carefully worded Instagram message, saying he was “so proud of her” and was “happy to be in a position to support her dreams.”
And they were also called out for not mentioning “love” by famous celebrity journalist Alison Boshoff, with sources saying that David was adamant he didn’t want to play a big part in the interview or be pictured on the cover as it was supposed to be about Posh’s fashion career. There were additional claims that he’s against putting their children in the limelight, while his wife is all for it. As Closer has previously reported, this has caused ongoing tension within their marriage.
LOOKING DISTANT
Fans speculated online, “I suspect the marriage has been over for some years” and “Looks like she’s clinging on to the brand. He’s appeared quite cold towards her and she very desperate.” While another added, “There is still no closeness or intimate body language on the new Vogue cover. They are so distant it’s laughable. Staying together for Brand Beckham and nothing else.”
And while the media storm around the couple gathered pace, David was pictured in Miami, where he is partly based now, enjoying himself around the pool.
Now insiders tell Closer that Posh – who shares Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and Harper, seven, with David – was desperately trying to avoid negativity around her marriage and is upset the interview had backfired so spectacularly.

A source says, “Vic’s tried everything, but no matter what she does, they’re a constant target of criticism and trolls – that’s what motivated her decision to sidestep talking about the relationship. She’s devastated the interview didn’t have the desired result – to finally silence the marriage critics – and feels however she presents their relationship, she can never make it work with David. She spoke to David about how she felt, he agrees with her that it’s best they don’t comment on their marriage publicly. He’s always reminding her that whatever they do there will be constant speculation. Her main priority is protecting her kids from the hurtful comments.”
AFFAIR SCANDAL
The couple have been plagued by reports of marriage trouble over the years – with David’s alleged infidelity repeatedly hitting the headlines.
In 2004, allegations surfaced that David had an affair with his former PA, Rebecca Loos, and there have been other claims of his infidelity since – all of which he’s strongly denied. More recently there were false reports of issues in the marriage after David’s spate of partying with other women, including model Poppy Delevingne and socialite Lady Mary Charteris. Then in February, David was the target of a barrage of negative press during the leaked email scandal dubbed “Beckileaks”, where it was claimed that he’d attempted to use charity work to gain a knighthood. At the time, David’s spokesperson released a statement saying, “This story is based on outdated material taken out of context.” Just four months later he was at the centre of another media storm when rumours swirled that the couple were set to divorce – claims they both vehemently denied.
“CLINGY” PICS
And Closer reported earlier this month, how Posh was left hurt by trolls, who accused David of “ignoring” her with his typically stand-offish body language and questioning whether he had any “feelings” for his wife after they posted pics on holiday with Elton John.
And after trolls continued to call her “clingy,” “desperate” and “pawing” at David last week, sources say Victoria’s feeling low.
The source says, “Posh has accepted that people will always want to tear down her marriage, but she can’t get her head around the way everyone seems to blame her for the reported issues.
“She feels as if David gets away scot-free, and she’s always shown in a bad light. Vic can’t help feeling he doesn’t understand how she feels or can relate to her pain, as no matter what he does, the public always worship him. She feels like she’s fighting an uphill battle, and doesn’t know what to do next.”
