Wayne’s past humiliates Coleen all over again

- By Daisy Mclure

Seeing all these hurtful words in black and white is really hard for her to stomach. What’s worse is the idea that this is the first thing people in America are reading about Wayne. This move was supposed to be about wiping the slate clean and starting afresh, but now it feels as though they’ll never escape their past.

“They’ve been through so much together and they’d both decided to put all the scandals behind them. But now she feels that there’s a whole new audience hearing about all their dirty laundry for the first time – and judging them. It’s not how she wanted her family or husband to be painted as soon as they stepped foot in America.”

EMOTIONAL

Coleen, 32, and Wayne – who are parents to Kai, eight, Klay, five, Kit, two, and six-monthold Cass – endured a turbulent 2017. Aside from Wayne’s drink-driving incident, it was also reported that he had lost £500,000 in a two-hour latenight solo gambling spree at Manchester’s 235 Casino.

In November, Coleen shared an emotional Facebook post, revealing she was giving her nine-year marriage a second chance after Wayne’s “silly and selfish mistake”. She insisted, “I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family, because that’s what I want to do. I’m not saying everything is fine and forgotten about, but we are as good as can be at this point.”

However, sources say that this recent damning article – which also detailed his hair-transplant and revealed his nickname is “Shrek” – is only causing Coleen more heartbreak and worries about their future in the US. The source adds, “Coleen has been open with Wayne and her friends and family that it’s been a hard road to get things back on track. She understands a new audience will be interested in who Wayne is and their family dynamic, but she doesn’t appreciate their past difficulties and heartache being poked fun at. She wants people to see them as a strong family unit and worries American audiences might just see them as this soap opera of scandal.”

Following his transfer from Everton to D.C. United, Wayne reportedly signed a multimillion-dollar deal with sports marketing firm Octagon, which is said to have the potential to catapult his family into superstardom. But sources say Coleen is now hesitant about Wayne establishing himself as a big star, and thinks the best thing for him to do is just focus on his football career. The source adds, “Coleen has told Wayne she thinks he should just keep his head down and concentrate on what happens on the pitch, while she focuses on making their new house a home with the kids. They don’t need any extra stress in their lives right now.”

ISOLATED

Insiders recently revealed to Closer that Coleen was feeling nervous about moving away from her close-knit family in the UK – staying less than a month in Washington before briefly returning to her native Liverpool two weeks ago. And sources say this latest ordeal has made her even more concerned about being so far away from loved ones. The source adds, “Nothing about moving away from home has been easy for Coleen, and now, when she needs her friends’ support the most, she’s never felt so far away from everyone. After what happened with Laura Simpson, she fled to her parents, but Coleen doesn’t have anywhere or anyone to turn to in America if things get really bad.

“Wayne has assured her nothing bad will happen to them out there, but she can’t help but worry if there was another scandal. For now, Wayne is doing his best to convince her that this is their new start and what’s important is their future, not their past.”
