She says, “At first, my excruciating pain was put down to lugging boxes after moving house, and being ‘too active’, but an MRI scan revealed a degenerative disc disease, coupled with years of running with arthritic hips. My confidence went because I didn’t dare leave the house. Thankfully, I was prescribed lowlevel antidepressants and pregabalin. Then, one day, I decided to go swimming and, to my immense relief, it helped. I still swim for an hour three times a week.”
