‘My baby is having a baby of her own’

She was only 18 S when she had her first child – son David, now 23 – and last week, Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh revealed her delight at discovering she is to become a grandma at 42. But she admits it’s been an emotional roller coaster since discovering her daughter Emilie, 21, is expecting her first child.

She says, “I’m looking forward to being a young grandmother. We’ve both had time to get our heads around it and now we’re over the moon. It makes me feel so emotional that my baby is having a baby of her own.”

Kym sat with Emilie as she took the pregnancy test and has been especially supportive as she knows how it feels to be a young mum. The actress opened up about her feelings in an interview, saying, “I’ve warned her that it’s going to be hard work, but I’ve also said that there are a lot of positives to having children while you’re young, too.

“There were times when I struggled because your life changes so much when you have a child, especially at that age. But I wouldn’t change what I have now for the world. Me, Emilie and David are best friends and I think that’s because there isn’t a huge age gap between us.”

The father of Emilie’s child is choosing to stay out of the spotlight, but she revealed that after being friends for years, they started a relationship six months ago, and she describes him as “lovely.”

Kym is also mum to Polly, seven, and Archie with actor ex Jamie Lomas. Archie tragically died moments after his premature birth in 2009.

And Emilie has praised her mum for being “really supportive.” She said, “For ages I couldn’t actually get the words ‘I’m pregnant’ out of my mouth because I didn’t know how people would react – I even made Mum tell my dad [Kym’s first love, Dave Cunliffe]!

“Luckily, I have the most supportive parents in the world and they’re both really excited.”
