Gethin: “I’m dating a normal girl now!”
Gethin Jones talks about his secret Hollywood relationship, and bonding with his radio co-host Gemma Atkinson
He was once engaged to H Katherine Jenkins, has dated TOWIE beauty Lucy Mecklenburgh and split from German model Katja Zwara in February after a year – and now Gethin Jones admits he’ll only commit to a relationship if he thinks it has longterm potential.
Gethin, 40 – whose sister Mererid jokingly claimed classical singer Katherine’s “weird toes” may have been the real reason for their split in 2011 after four years together – says, “I want to make sure I find the right person because I never want another guy to put my kids to bed. I don’t want to settle down too quickly before I know it’s right.
“But I’m dating at the moment. I’m kind of dating a normal girl now, though she’s not normal to me! The joke is, I’ve been rumoured to be seeing Amanda Byram and Susie Amy – some of my closest friends!
“I actually dated a really well-known LA actress, but no one knew about it. We were seeing each other for five months. I never spoke about it. She’s a massive star. Maybe I wasn’t massive enough to warrant a story. Or maybe they thought I was her manager!”
BOOZY NIGHTS OUT
The TV presenter has recently relocated to Manchester from London to present The Hits Radio Breakfast show with former Hollyoaks and Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma Atkinson, 33. The pair have been snapped bonding on boozy nights out and the Welsh heartthrob says they’re good pals off-air.
“It’s so fun,” laughs Gethin. “Gemma waltzes in at ten to six looking like she picked up her clothes on the way here and we’re laughing straight away. We got really drunk on the May Day bank holiday and she hasn’t been out since – it was such a big night! It was a ‘welcome to Manchester’ night out for me. But I don’t go out that much normally because I’m in bed by 8.30pm for the 6am start!”
LEARNING SPANISH
The co-host of Strictly: It Takes Two also revealed he’s helping Gemma to learn Spanish so that she can speak to her Strictly beau Gorka Marquez in his native tongue.
He says, “Gem and I are learning Spanish together. She wants to learn for Gorka and I have always wanted to. So we are going to Spanish school! Then we’ll interview someone prominent – from Manchester United maybe – totally in Spanish. Watch this space for that one!”
