Her footballer H husband Wayne Rooney faced a barrage of negative headlines last year – including reportedly gambling away £500,000 in just two hours in a casino in May, and suffering a shock drink- drive arrest in September while out with party girl Laura Simpson.

But while many questioned whether Coleen Rooney’s marriage would survive, she chose to forgive him and the childhood sweethearts – both 32 – have appeared to bounce back stronger than ever this year.

The family – including sons Kai, nine, Klay, five, Kit, two, and ten-month-old Cass – opted for a fresh start in July when they moved to Washington, USA, after Wayne signed a three-year contract with DC United. And insiders say Coleen laid down some strict marriage rules to keep them a strong unit.

A source says, “Coleen knew things had to change in the marriage, and as a stipulation for forgiving Wayne, she implemented some strict rules to make them stronger. She’s thrilled about how this year has gone for her family and feels they’re better now than before.”

Coleen – who wed Wayne in 2008 – previously said that she hoped to renew her marriage vows for their tenth anniversary, but reportedly postponed plans after their drama-filled year.

But with Wayne now appearing to have turned a corner, insiders say they could be set for a romantic celebration in 2019.

The source says, “Coleen’s told Wayne that if everything continues to go well, they can talk about renewing their wedding vows. It didn’t feel right to do it this year on their ten-year anniversary after all of the drama in 2017, but now that they’re happy again, Coleen would be really keen to do it next year.”
