5 MINUTES WITH...

Husband and wife duo Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, back with their consumer entertainment show – this time going live, and with the legendary Esther Rantzen on board…

- By Hannah Wright

This is series two – and this time it’s live… EAMONN, 59:

They’ve “done the right thing” and brought it back – live, and with Esther Rantzen involved in it as well. We’re all ready to go guns blazing…

RUTH, 58: We’re excited. Live television is what we do, and I think it adds an extra bit of spice. One of the major things about being live is that you can work with the audience. People can react to the show as it’s happening.

EAMONN: And there’s an edginess to it as people know anything can happen.

What’s the series about for anyone who hasn’t seen it?

EAMONN: It’s got echoes of That’s Life [Esther Rantzen’s long-running consumer show, which ended in the ’90s]. It’s a celebration of community heroes, who need a pat on the back…

RUTH: It has a feel-good factor about it. It’s celebrating people who are making a difference. We cover consumer issues, we feature heart-warming stories and we get out there with the general public – they become the stars. It’s a show you can watch with all the family and there aren’t many of those.

Are you excited that Esther Rantzen is involved?

RUTH: She is an absolute consumer legend, for starting Childline [a counselling service for young people] and for starting Silver Line [an advice helpline for older folk]. For Esther to join us is like the ultimate seal of approval. We’re thrilled to have her on board.

EAMONN: To go from being a ten-year-old, watching – and being gripped by – That’s Life, and now presenting with her from the same studio, on the same show, it’s incredible for someone like me – for people like us.
