he’s been slammed by animal activists and angry fans over her fashion choices in the past – and last week, Coleen Rooney sparked fresh controversy when she appeared to be wearing a fur coat while posing with husband Wayne Rooney at members’ club Soho Farmhouse in Chipping Norton.

While Coleen didn’t confirm whether the item of clothing was made with real or faux fur, fans lashed out on social media, with one writing, “Urgh, is that real fur on your back?” While another added, “If your coat is real fur then that’s disgusting.”

NEGATIVITY

A source says, “All Coleen wanted to do was post a nice picture of her and Wayne enjoying their festive break – she didn’t expect so much negativity. She’s very sensitive to criticism and can’t stand it when people attack her – it brought back a lot of nasty memories and left her a bit stunned.”

Coleen, 32, first angered animal lovers in 2004, when she was pictured wearing rabbit fur boots – an incident that earned her a place at the top of a hit list created by the extremist Animal Liberation Front.

She attempted to justify wearing the boots by telling Closer at the time, “Rabbits get killed for food, so why waste the skins?” But animal rights group PETA hit back, saying Coleen was “talking nonsense” as some rabbits are specifically bred for the fur industry and are kept confined to painfully small boxes.

She was also pictured in 2013 wearing what appeared to be a real fur scarf.

HURTFUL COMMENTS

Insiders say Coleen and Wayne had been looking forward to celebrating the end of 2018 together following a big year, which saw them move to Washington D.C. – along with their sons Kai, eight, Klay, five, Kit, two, and new baby Cass – for Wayne’s transfer to D.C. United .

The source adds, “Coleen is ready for a positive 2019 and wants to block out all the negativity. She’s sick of people slating her and always coming after her with hurtful comments online.

“The move has been hard enough without people constantly criticising her, and she can’t help but feel that they’re just trying to tear her down. She’s doing her best to ignore the haters, but she’s only human.

“Coleen thinks they settled into life in Washington well, but she’s still missing her home comforts. She’s told Wayne she wants to plan some holidays with her parents during his time off and schedule trips back to the UK when they can. Obviously the kids’ schooling takes priority, but Coleen wants to feel she still has a link to home.”
