‘My cancer scare was terrifying’

Rebekah Vardy has four children – Megan, 13, and Taylor, nine, from a previous relationship, and Sofia, three, and Finley, one, with her footballer husband Jamie, 31. Rebekah says, “When Taylor was a baby, I had pre-cancerous cells that needed to be removed. I had an operation, but didn’t get clear margins, so they had to do it again. The scariest thoughts went through my mind. I envisioned my kids being without their mum – you can’t help your mind running riot. Fortunately, it was fine, but now I have smears every two years. And that’s why I posted about my smear test – having one could save your life. The nurses and doctors have seen it all, so embarrassment shouldn’t stop anyone. I’ve had so many women contacting me since I posted and I would do it again in a heartbeat. We need to talk about it – that way it stops being a taboo subject.”
