Posh’s fears as Brooklyn distances himself

With her eldest son in lockdown in America, Victoria Beckham is worried how they’ll cope being 3,000 miles apart

-

She’s been trying to stay positive during the country’s lockdown – sharing light-hearted videos of her family holed up at their £6million Cotswolds home, including making comical innuendos as her and husband David baked their first-ever cake together.

But while Posh, real name Victoria Beckham, is making the most of quality time with her husband David and their three youngest children – sons Romeo, 17, and Cruz, 15, and eight-year-old daughter Harper – pals say she’s struggling with being separated from her eldest son, Brooklyn, 21, who’s self-isolating 3,000 miles away in New York with American girlfriend Nicola Peltz, 25.

Last week, Posh admitted she was missing Brooklyn as she posted videos of her FaceTiming him and asking for his advice on how to keep their three pet dogs content during the lockdown. And reposting her son’s recent magazine photoshoot, she declared, “We are all missing @BrooklynBeckham so much as he remains in lockdown in the US.” A source says, “While Vic understands Brooklyn wants to be with Nicola, it’s a worrying time for everyone, and understandably she’s been feeling anxious about him being so far away. With all the uncertainty hanging over them, it’s a struggle not knowing when she’ll get to see him again. “Brooklyn’s assured her he’s OK and they’ve been FaceTiming numerous times a day, as well as sending each other videos and pictures. But he’s never lived away from home for any length of time before – the longest they’ve been apart is a few weeks, as they’re so used to jumping on flights to see each other on other sides of the world. Vic can’t bear to think she might not see him in person for weeks, or even months. They’ve got such a close bond, and the current situation means she can’t even get on with her usual routine to take her mind off things.”

EMPTY NEST

Posh, 45, has always enjoyed an incredibly close relationship with her eldest son – who called her his “best friend” and “the most amazing mum” in a touching Mother’s Day tribute last week – with the budding photographer often standing in as his mum’s “plus one” at events. And when Brooklyn debuted his first photography book, a proud Posh was there to support him and, along with David, 44, was centre stage at his launch party. Insiders have previously revealed that it’s fashion designer Posh’s dream to have Brooklyn working for her, and she continually asks for his thoughts on her designs and how they’re presented.

Speaking at the Forbes Women’s Summit in June 2018,

Posh gave an insight into her family life, saying, “I am trying to be the best wife and the best professional. When I get home I try to put the phone down and spend time with the children and spend time with David.”

In 2018, insiders described how Posh – who last week revealed she was home-schooling her youngest children at their country estate – was quietly relieved when her homesick son dropped out of his photography course in New York and moved back home to London. And pals now say that with Brooklyn in the US indefinitely, she’s starting to feel the familiar pang of empty nest syndrome – heightened by suggestions that Brooklyn’s already making plans to settle down with his new girlfriend. The source adds, “Vic was so happy to have Brooklyn back home and had hoped he’d stay close by, but now it’s sinking in that he and Nicola could decide to base themselves Stateside permanently, which is weighing down heavily on her. David’s urged her not to get too wrapped up in the future and to just be grateful Brooklyn’s happy and settled. But to Vic, he’ll always be her baby, and she’s naturally concerned over the distance between them.”

Meanwhile, following his mum’s lead, Brooklyn’s also been trying to stay to stay positive, keeping fans entertained on Instagram with snaps of himself and Nicola giving each other makeovers in a bid to stave off the boredom. Brooklyn – who Closer recently revealed had told his parents he hoped to marry and start a family with Nicola, the daughter of US billionaire Nelson Peltz – was left heartbroken after a bitter split from actress Chloë Grace Moretz in 2018, following two years of on/off dating. He also had a turbulent eight-month relationship with model Hana Cross, which ended last year. Soon after, he was linked to several women, including Kate Moss’ sister, Lottie, Rita Ora and “Victoria Beckham lookalike” Phoebe Torrance.

NERVOUS

And pals say that while Posh is taking solace in her son’s obvious happiness with

Nicola, with whom he went “Instagram official” in January, she can’t help worrying how the global response to the pandemic will impact on their budding relationship.

The source adds, “Vic has really enjoyed getting to know Nicola over the last few months. But she’s naturally nervous about how they’ll cope being cooped up together 24/7, and the pressure that could put on their relationship. Brooklyn wears his heart on his sleeve, and he’s extremely sensitive. Vic saw how spending so much time with his exes caused tension between them, and she doesn’t want the same thing to happen again and for her son to end up heartbroken. But this is an unprecedented situation and, right now, the pair’s safety and welfare is her main priority. She’s advised Brooklyn to take regular walks where he can and ensure he and Nicola give one another as much space as they can.”
