COLEEN&WAYNE FIGHT ISOLATION WITH VIRTUAL FAMILY DINNERS
She’s incredibly close to her parents, Colette and Tony McLoughlin, who were reportedly one of the main reasons behind husband Wayne Rooney’s surprise return to English football after his homesick wife persuaded him to cut short his £10m contract in the US. And friends say Coleen Rooney, 33, is worried about how she and her four sons –
Kai, 10, Clay, six, Kit, four, and two-year-old Cass – will cope without her parents’ support amid their enforced quarantine.
A source says, “Coleen was used to seeing her mum and dad most days. They live a short drive away from her Cheshire home, so were always popping over to lend a hand with the kids. The boys are really attached to them, so Coleen’s anxious about the emotional impact as it’s difficult to explain the situation to the children, especially the younger ones.”
When the family moved to Washington in 2018 after former England star Wayne, 34, signed a three-year deal with DC United, Coleen opened up about how tough it was not having her parents close by. She revealed, “It’s hard not being able to pop down the road – an eight-hour flight is a long distance. You can’t just nip over for a cup of tea.”
Since settling back into UK life after returning last September, the couple have been sharing happy family shots via Instagram. Last week, Wayne revealed how he’d been homeschooling their sons amid the lockdown, with pals saying the footballer is trying to find creative ways to include their grandparents in their daily activities. The source adds, “Wayne’s really stepped up to the plate. He knows how hard this is for Coleen and the boys, so he’s created a rota to FaceTime both sets of grandparents – having dinner with them virtually and having them read their books before bedtime.
