Why Cameron’s celeb pals want her back in the limelight

After a six-year hiatus from Hollywood to focus on her family, Cameron Diaz has been persuaded to consider a comeback

❛ SHE FINDS THE IDEA A BIT OVERWHELMING AND SCARY ❜

She welcomed her first child, daughter Raddix Madden, in January – and last week, Cameron Diaz teased fans that she could be about to return to acting.

When asked in a YouTube interview whether she would consider “coming out of retirement”, the 47 year old said, “Look, I’m never going to say ‘never’. I’m not a person who says ‘never’ about anything.”

It comes just days after Cameron – who is married to Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden – gushed about motherhood in another interview, saying, “I love being a mother. It’s the best part of my life.”

OWN IDENTITY

And insiders tell Closer it’s Cameron’s A-list pals, including her Charlie’s Angels co-star Drew Barrymore, mum to daughters Olive, seven, and Frankie, six, and singer Adele, mum to son Angelo, six, who

have been encouraging her to find balance in her life and get back into her career.

A source reveals, “She had wanted to have a baby for so long, which is why she took such a long break from acting. But once she achieved her dream and felt so complete, she realised there was still room in her life for her other passion – acting.

“After she spoke to pals Drew and Adele, they both agreed now would be a good time for her to throw herself back in the ring. Adele in particular – who is a huge fan of Cameron’s films, like The Mask – said she was mad not to be making use of her talent. Adele said that working on her music ‘saved’ her when she struggled with motherhood in the past, and although she understands parenting is a huge, full-time commitment, you also need to have your own identity other than being a mum.

“Meanwhile, Drew – who

Cam has been best friends with for 25 years, since meeting in a coffee shop as teenagers – added it’s important to strike a balance, and make time for yourself, your hobbies and your passions.”

Retirement has been a change of pace for Cameron, who started out as a model before breaking into the movie industry at the age of 21, and dating the likes of heartthrob singer Justin

Timberlake, 39, along the way.

But the actress hasn’t starred in a movie since the 2014 remake of Annie, months before marrying Benji – choosing a quiet life away from the spotlight instead.

OVERWHELMING

Cameron recently heaped praise on her husband for being a hands-on father, saying, “He puts [Raddix] to bed – he’s so good. He’s such an amazing father. I’m so lucky he’s my baby’s daddy. He’s so incredible. He puts her down and I go into the kitchen and I start dinner and I pour myself a nice glass of red wine.”

And now sources say that, with Benji’s support, she’s finally feeling ready to get back to her career. “Cameron was getting sick of playing the same stereotypical, glamorous roles. But now she’s a mother and a little older, she wants to fly the flag for women in their forties,” says the source.

“She really looks up to actresses like Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep and would love to sink her teeth into a really dramatic role. Although she finds the idea of it all a bit overwhelming and scary, she has the full support of her husband and friends and knows that if she doesn’t get back to it soon, she could end up regretting it.”
