SARAH JESSICA REACHES OUT TO KIM TO HEAL FEUD
Hopes for a third Sex And The City movie were dashed when its star, Sarah Jessica Parker, crushingly revealed in 2017, “It’s over. We’re not doing it,” as rumours swirled that the project had fallen through because fellow SATC actress Kim Cattrall refused to reprise her role as man-eater Samantha Jones.
But Hollywood insiders tell Closer that mum-of-three Sarah Jessica, 55, has spent time in lockdown trying to re-think a strategy to get the movie – which had a finished script written by Michael Patrick King – back in production, and lift the spirits of fans of the show.
“Sarah Jessica feels that, coming out of lockdown, Hollywood will be looking for exciting new projects and believes there’s a chance they could do it,” an insider shares. “She’s even reached out to Kim because of how frosty their relationship has become. She’s thinking that, if the two of them can somehow put their differences aside, they might just make it happen.”
The pair’s long-running feud reached tipping point in 2018, when Kim, 63, accused Sarah Jessica of exploiting the death of her brother, Chris, 55, after he was found dead after going missing from his home in Alberta, Canada. “You are not my family, you are not my friend,” Kim hit back, after Sarah Jessica posted a supportive message to her on Instagram.
In 2017, Kim denied reports that the film stalled because of her “demands” after she tweeted, “The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film.... & that was back in 2016.” She later addressed the subject on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories show, describing her relationship with the US show as “toxic”, adding that Sarah Jessica “could have been nicer”.
However, during a podcast that featured interviews with the cast and crew, it was claimed Kim didn’t wanted to participate in a third movie because the script was largely focused on SJP’s character Carrie.
The source adds, “At this stage, Sarah Jessica is willing to get any changes made to ensure Kim would be excited about the project again. The jury’s still out, but she knows it won’t work without Kim so she’s willing to do whatever she needs to in order to smooth the waters.”
