‘It’s crazy to think Kourtney Kardashian has seen the show!’

Her performance as Marianne Sheridan blew audiences and critics away, but Daisy Edgar-Jones admits she still hasn’t come to terms with the popularity of the show, and says she’s been starstruck by some of the A-list stars who have revealed they’ve watched it.

Speaking on Elizabeth Day’s How To Fail podcast, Daisy, 22, said, “It’s been very hard to even register… It slightly feels like a dream, because it’s all-encompassing when you look at your phone. But then you turn it off and you’re just in your bedroom.

“[ Killing Eve star] Jodie Comer did a post about [the show], and that, for me, was crazy, because I love Jodie Comer! I think she’s incredible. And I saw that Kourtney Kardashian watched it as well – it’s so crazy that she now knows what Gaelic football is!”

London-born Daisy credits the natural chemistry she had with her co-star, Paul Mescal – who plays Connell – for the show’s success, and laughs that many of her friends have asked her to set them up with the Irish heart-throb.

She says, “Paul and I are polar opposites. I’m massively flappy and get the giggles really easily, and we’re very silly together. It really helped when we were filming, because sometimes we were doing quite intense scenes, then ‘cut’ would be yelled and we’d be giggling and have a nice release. Our friendship is a wonderful thing and something I’ll really treasure forever. I feel so lucky to have met Paul.

“I’ve had so many friends asking if he’s single! Poor Paul, he’s going to have a really interesting experience when we come out of isolation!”

Daisy had a taste of the spotlight after starring in the likes of Cold Feet and War Of The Worlds – but being cast in Normal People has catapulted her to mainstream fame. And while she knows it’ll be overwhelming, she says her dad – Philip Edgar-Jones, who was one of the creators of Big Brother – has given her advice to keep her grounded.

She says, “My dad told me… ‘Never believe the hype, because you’ve got to keep your feet on the ground and your head screwed on and never get too big for your boots’. It’s been very useful because I would never want to be like that.” And while her dad’s career in the TV industry helped him prepare for watching his daughter’s graphic sex scenes, Daisy recently revealed, “My poor dad got a call to do a quiz while watching the show, so he paused it and hadn’t realised until he was halfway through the quiz that he’d paused it [on a nude scene]… obviously wasn’t ideal!”
