Vicky’s shock baby U-turn: “I might be too selfish to be a mum”

Lockdown has made ex-Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison rethink her plans to start a family with boyfriend Ercan Ramadan

-

After a string of failed relationships, she’s finally found a man who’s taught her how to love again – but becoming a mum could well and truly be off the cards for Vicky Pattison. The former Geordie Shore star – who in March told Closer she was looking into freezing her eggs – has admitted she may be too “selfish” to have a baby and that she’s perhaps not ready to start a family after all.

Talking to best friend and TOWIE star Pete Wicks on her podcast Vicky Pattison: The Secret To, she said, “It’s not definite that [having a baby] is happening. It’s nothing to be sad about but I just don’t know. I’ve really learnt in lockdown that I’m not very self-sufficient. Having to be in charge of another human life might be rather difficult for someone as selfish as me.”

LIFE CHOICES

It’s a dramatic turnaround for the I’m A Celeb! winner, who in March said she was making a conscious decision to be healthier so she could “conceive [children] naturally” with boyfriend Ercan Ramadan.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to have children and that I don’t worry that some of the life choices I’ve made have set me on a path where that might not be possible,” Vicky, 32, told Closer at the time. “I always thought that by 30 I’d have a husband and kids, but sometimes life doesn’t work out the way you planned.”

Vicky – who has been dating Ercan, 26, for over a year – also said she was looking into freezing her eggs so she could choose the best time to become a mum. “I’m in a brand-new relationship and it’s super exciting, but I want to do it when the time is right. I’m eating well and making sure I’m in the best of health if I do decide to have a little Vicky or a little Ercan. I want to bring a baby into the world where I’m in a great place, have a lovely partner and we’re both ready for it,” she added.

CHANGE OF HEART

Ercan even offered to start a family earlier than planned after Vicky visited a fertility clinic and was warned she’d need to change her lifestyle in order to have kids. The star said she felt “ashamed” of herself after she was told to cut down on her alcohol intake.

Speaking before lockdown, she explained, “He [Ercan] said to me, ‘If you want to have kids now, we can, but it’s not the right time and you know that yourself if you’re honest.’ I was like, ‘I know’. I love the stage we’re at, we have weekends away, we spend time with our families, we’re on about moving house, it’s a lovely stage and having a baby would just complicate that and I don’t know if either of us are ready.

I had to be realistic, and there’s part of us would love a baby so much but I know it’s not the right time.”

However, it’s not the first time Vicky has changed her mind about wanting children, as before meeting Ercan, she’d been adamant that she didn’t want to be a mum. In 2017, she admitted kids were still “a big question mark,” adding, “I’ve never really seen them in my future.” At that time she was engaged to businessman John Noble, but was heartbroken when, in November 2018 – just seven months before they were supposed to get married – he was seen grinding against another woman during a lads’ holiday in Dubai. It was her second broken engagement, as she also accepted her former GS co-star, Ricci Guarnaccio’s proposal in 2012, but split from him a year later, saying their relationship was “hell”. But since meeting Ercan three months after she dumped John, she appeared to have a change of heart.

Regardless of whether the couple do decide to settle down, it’s clear their relationship is only getting stronger.

Sharing a selfie of herself and Ercan earlier this month, Vicky wrote, “A lot of people think loving someone should make you jealous and restless but true love is where you find security, they give you no reason to doubt their loyalty. @ercan_ram you taught me to love again... and showed me what it should really feel like.”

And Ercan – who is isolating with Vicky in their Essex home – is just as besotted with the bubbly brunette. In May, Vicky revealed lockdown had brought them closer together and joked about how the former TOWIE star “always wants to have sex”. “He wants kisses when

I’ve got no make-up on, and he’s always touching my bum.

I think he’s fallen in love with who I am as a person,” she explained.

That feeling of self-acceptance has filtered through to Vicky’s outlook on the future. She told Pete, “Trust in your own timeline, have faith in your journey – and do what feels right, when it feels right.”
