Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh, 43, on how fronting ITV consumer show Eat, Shop, Save has helped her to turn her own life around…

Tell us about the series?

It’s not one of those extreme shows where people are wildly out of control and we swoop in and fix them. We help normal families who are experiencing the normal stresses and strains of life…

Give us an example?

We’ve got one lovely mum who’s been taking diet pills for years. She thought they were natural and herbal, but we sent them off to a lab and I think there will be many gulps from people watching who might be thinking, ‘Oh cr*p, I’ve been buying those…’ Her husband said to me, ‘I think you’ve saved her life’. You’ve talked about your own bad habits?

I’m an emotional eater. Any uncomfortable feelings and I tend to reach for something to eat. It’s not an easy thing to live with and I can really identify with that sort of person. We all want things to work quickly, but in eight weeks you CAN lose a stone – and you don’t have to drink shakes or take a pill or join a gym or run 5k every day.

Are you happy with your weight? I’m somebody who struggles with fitness and food. At any given point over the last 20 years I could be a size 8 or a 12. Eat, Shop, Save has helped me personally and I now definitely feel like I’ve got a chance to give my son [Tushaan, seven] good habits that I should’ve had.

What’s your food weakness?

I can’t go down the crisp aisle safely. I think there is such a thing as a salt addiction, and I think I have that! I couldn’t care less about sweet things, but give me a bag of Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli…

How do you like to keep fit? Before lockdown, I did have a personal trainer – hark at me! One of the only good things about the last few months was that I didn’t have to see him! He was like, ‘Do you want to do some Zoom lessons?’ I went, ‘Oh God, do I have to? I thought this was my way out!’
