HAPPINESS BE DESTROYED MA & STRESS?

- By Daisy McLure

‘We’re not going to settle this’ and they will push and push.

“The whole purpose of a libel action is to vindicate someone’s reputation. Rebekah will likely say the allegations Coleen made caused her serious harm in that people might think she’s not to be trusted. Coleen, on the other hand, will seek to prove that what she said and did was true. If a lawyer could find a way of saying the gender selection story is relevant to either party’s case, it could be something that ends up being cross-examined.”

Mediator Alistair Carter adds, “It’s highly possible Coleen will be grilled about the gender selection leak, but it’s very difficult to prove it actually came from Rebekah herself, so this will be investigated by the court. I’m sure there’ll be details about Coleen’s private life with Wayne that they would rather be kept private, and the same goes for Rebekah.”

Our legal expert adds that Coleen will face questioning on the methods she went to as she investigated who was selling stories on her, and just how accurate they were.

“It’s a pressure cooker in court. She may find it overwhelming and burst into tears. Many do,” the expert explains.

The court case could prove cruel timing for Coleen and Wayne, who looked more lovedup than ever on a recent getaway to Barbados with their sons Kai, ten, Klay, seven, Kit, four, and Cass, two. Pregnancy rumours even began swirling during the trip, but Coleen denied these, explaining she had simply gained weight – something she’d previously done when expecting her fourth son Cass in 2017.

The couple’s relationship has weathered several scandals over the years, including Wayne’s infidelity and his 2017 arrest for drink-driving during a night out with party girl Laura Simpson. It prompted Coleen to write a candid Facebook post in which she described her husband’s mistakes as “silly and selfish”.

FRICTION

But while the pair have recently looked to be happier than ever, mediator Alistair believes the scandal surrounding the upcoming court case could easily put stress on their marriage. “Going to court causes stress, and any stress in a relationship isn’t great, especially if you believe things are going to come out that perhaps you don’t want to come out,” Alistair explains. “There’ll likely be details about Coleen’s private life with Wayne that he would rather be kept private. I’m sure they’ve had a conversation between them about what might come up and whether that’s worth it and whether they want that to happen.”

And relationship expert Jo Barnett also believes the court case could cause friction. She says, “Coleen’s really strong. Any court battle is a stressful situation to be in, but she seems to know what she’s in for and she still wants to go ahead. It’s clear that she’s in a really happy place right now, and while it’s a concern all this could burst that joyous bubble, she and Wayne will no doubt work together as a team.”
