“Orlando adopted his kooky LA lifestyle… in the UK!”

The British actor has been mocked for his daily routine of ‘brain oil’ smoothies and morning chanting, but insiders say it isn’t a fad and insist he’s always been spiritual

Describing his morning routine, Kent-born actor Orlando Bloom, 44, caused a stir last week after raising eyebrows with his very “Hollywood” start to each day. In an interview with a newspaper, Orlando said, “I chant for 20 minutes every day, religiously. I like to earn my breakfast, so I’ll just have some green powders that I mix with brain octane oil, a collagen powder for my hair and nails and some protein. It’s all quite LA really. Then I’ll go for a hike.”

And after detailing his breakfast of porridge with hazelnut milk, goji berries and vegan protein powder, he explained, “I’ll only eat a really good piece of red meat maybe once a month. I sometimes look at a cow and think, that’s the most beautiful thing ever.”

The interview went viral as fans took to social media to mock the Lord Of The Rings star for getting sucked into the “health-obsessed new age celebrity mindset” of many of his Hollywood peers – with some even questioning whether his kooky revelations were a spoof. Loose Women panellist Janet Street-Porter dubbed the actor a “complete idiot”. Although the star – who moved to LA with his now ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr, and their 10-year-old son, Flynn, in 2013 – later said the interview had become a “running joke with my friend group and family”, insiders say Orlando’s “wacky” rituals in fact stem from his childhood. A source says, “While it may seem like Orlando’s ‘gone to the dark side’ and jumped on the LA obsession with health and wellness, he had a very religious and spiritual upbringing. As ironic as it may seem, it also keeps him more connected to his British roots. He was introduced to Buddhism as a teenager, which he then became a devotee of and decided to live his life by its teaching, which includes practising meditation and adopting a vegan diet.”

And it seems the star has met his perfect match in fiancée Katy Perry,

36, who has previously revealed that the pair were bound together by “spiritual evolution” upon meeting in 2016. The Fireworks singer – who shares seven-month-old daughter Daisy Dove with Orlando – said, “I’ve never had a partner who was willing to go on an emotional and spiritual journey like Orlando. It’s like a never-ending cleanse.”

Fans also mocked the “delusional” actor for being “tone deaf” as he revealed he spends his time “dreaming up roles for myself and everyone – minorities and women” from his and Katy’s £12 million Californian mansion.

And despite admitting in another interview that he wasn’t “getting enough” sex with Katy since having daughter Daisy Dove in August, he is unlikely to face her wrath. The source adds, “Orlando and Katy aren’t ashamed of their way of life and while they understand it may seem tokenistic to some, they are also incredibly down-to-earth and their relationship is very much centered on their ability to laugh at one another and not take themselves too seriously.”
