Does sex get better in your fifties?
Having sex – and speaking about it – can be seen as a taboo subject as you get older. But recently, female celebs in their fifties have been breaking boundaries and speaking loudly and proudly about their bedroom antics, and how good they feel in their own skin. Last week, Amanda Holden let her inhibitions go when she revealed that she and her husband Chris Hughes still have a “primal” sex life after 12 years of marriage. The 50-year-old – who has daughters Lexi, 15, and nine-year-old Hollie with Chris – revealed, “He can’t keep his hands off me. I actually tell him off because I say, ‘I don’t want to have a kiss and a grope while I’m trying to load the dishwasher. He’s up for it any time. Always.
So it’s when I decide. Poor chap!” Hot on the heels of Amanda’s candid confession, Ulrika Jonsson, 53 – who stripped naked for an Instagram pic last October – proclaimed older women “are finally doing it for themselves” and described Amanda’s carefree nature as “refreshing”. Last year, TV presenter Davina McCall opened up about sex at 50, saying, “Women over 50 feel sexy, we can dress sexily and we can wear underwear and we still enjoy orgasms… People say, ‘Oh, it’s all gone…menopause… you’re finished with your wizened, dried-up ovaries.’ I feel like it’s really important to say that people in their 50s are having the time of their lives.”
