‘Scientology tried to end my marriage!’
Matt Willis made a shock revelation last week that he secretly joined the Church of Scientology – before they tried to separate him from his wife, Emma.
Matt claims he was approached by the controversial religious organisation outside their establishment in central London, shortly after he left rehab for drug and alcohol abuse in 2008.
The Busted singer was “fully invested” and attended their church meetings “every single day” – spending hundreds of pounds on books and courses. But he left months later when he believed members “tried to break up his marriage” to The Voice presenter, Emma.
Matt said, “They were like, ‘There’s someone in your life who’s actually draining you and I was like, ‘I think they’re trying to split my marriage up now.’”
Matt, 37, and Emma, 45, have been together since 2005, and share children Isabelle, 11, Ace, nine, and four-year-old Trixie.
Over the years, many have criticised the church for being a “cult”. Notable members include Hollywood stars John Travolta and
Tom Cruise. While Tom was married to ex-wife
Katie Holmes, it is alleged he wanted her to follow the church’s philosophy of having a “silent birth” with their daughter, Suri.
